Argostoli – 36km

Argostoli is main town and capital. Here you will find banks, fresh fruit, veg, meat and fish markets, and bakeries, restaurant, bars, shops and supermarkets

The Drogarati Caves (3km outside Sami) are a rare geological phenomenon with includes a large chamber of 65m x 45m and 20m in height.  At a steady 18C this is a lovely place to visit and admire the stalactites and stalagmites on a hot day.  Above ground there are two good cafes (with loo facilities) – one has a free open air pool to relax around when all that touring just gets too much.

The Melissani Cave (2km outside Sami) has a 39m deep underground lake, which you explore from a rowing boat – your guide is the boatman.  An aperture in the roof of the cave gives the water the most amazing colours.  Again, another cool place to visit on a hot summer’s day.

Both caves are open every day of the year.

Between the villa and all the above locations are numerous villages, which also have a range of tavernas offering Greek, meat and seafood dishes.
